What else do I need to know?

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine dating back over 2,000 years, is one of the oldest healthcare practices in the world. Chinese medicine offers a comprehensive view of health, addressing both physical and emotional well-being. Treatment focuses on the whole person rather than just the symptoms or illness, emphasising that good health involves more than merely the absence of pain or disease.
-
The aim of acupuncture is to stimulate the body’s natural healing response and restore balance by inserting ultra-fine needles at specific points along the meridians. Treatment targets both the root cause of your condition and its symptoms, which can lead to a more lasting resolution of your problems.
-
There is generally no need to undress for treatment, as the most frequently used points are below the knees and elbows. It’s best to wear loose or baggy clothing that can easily be rolled up. If points above your knees, elbows, or on your back or stomach are needed, blankets are used to keep you warm and covered at all times.
Once the needles are inserted, it takes about 40-45 minutes for them to work. During this time, you can chat or simply relax and enjoy the treatment.

Please be aware that:
Drowsiness occurs after treatment in a small number of patients. If you are affected, it is advised that you do not drive.
Minor bleeding or bruising occurs in about 3% of treatments.
Existing symptoms may worsen after treatment (in less than 3% of patients). You should inform your acupuncturist if this happens, but it is usually a positive sign.
Fainting can occur in some patients, particularly during the first treatment.

Eat well and drink plenty of water.
Keep warm and avoid cold temperatures—your body needs warmth to open up blocked energy channels.
Avoid drinking too much tea, coffee, or other caffeinated beverages.
Take it easy after acupuncture and avoid strenuous exercise immediately afterward.
